Mastodon has been designed as a microblogging platform since day one... Just text. Like Twitter before it. Why do some people suddenly want to change something so fundamental after more than two years :thonking:

@Gargron I mean, it's not ENTIRELY just text -- it's slightly-rich text, where the richness is (a) @-s, (b) hashtags, and (c) URLS.

(And possibly-arguably (d) CWs?)

@gaditb The input is plain-text, and semantically it is plain-text--all of the meaning can be derived without anything being clickable. That it is turned into hyperlinks, for convenience, is more of a technical cherry on top.
